Looking for a laptop

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice around a laptop for a 70 year old who has difficulty turning on a printer!! My mum has asked for a laptop so that she can email people. They have a computer but she is scared to use it in case she breaks it so she would like a laptop for herself. I have seen a few on ebuyer which are £330 and under - we dont want to spend too much as I really dont know if she will use the thing as like I say she is worried to use the computer!!
Any help with what is a good price to pay and what sort of things I would need would be appreciated. The ones on ebuyer are HP ones and a fujitsu.

Have a look on Currys web page they have some good offers there. Or Pc world .I would always buy from Dell as you can still get xp on their laptops .All i seem to reading is people asking questions on how to remove Vista and replace it with xp.

Wot, a strange unsubstantiated statement?
  • well not really as if you do any physical damage to a desktop it's probably going to be easier and cheaper to fix. Besides a desktop will have bigger monitor and bigger keyboard so should be easier for her to use.

OK, a bit simplistic maybe but generally desktop bits are cheaper, easier to get at, so less labour, certainly the motherboard.
Can i suggest this Toshiba, £330, dual core processor so better than the celerons at the same price, you will need to get more memory to make it up to 1Gb which is the minimum for Vista, an extra 512mb is only £8.50 from play
Another option is this Asus or this one from ebuyer, £400/420, better specification and comes with a 2 year warranty.
There is also this Dell one for £328, good spec. Reduce the warranty to 1 year base, for some reason the price drops once you add it to your basket.
HP one similar to the Dell spec here.
