Insurance claim - will it affect price?

I have had the unfortunate luck of having someone hit my car in a car park and run off whilst I was gtiing some bread and milk. I could rant on about the person involved, but will restrain myself...

...instead I was wondering before I make a claim:

1) Will this affect future quotes (I have Protected discount bonus).
2) Do I have to mention it in future quotes if I do make a claim as an "accident"?

I have reported it to the police - they are obviously not persuing it and have given me a referecnce. Should cost approx 500 quid to get done, and my exccess is £150.

Anyone with experience of this offer any advice?

Thanks

PS - There is no way to get the person involved as the CCTV was useless - typical! :(

Happened to me, except I caught the guy's number and he was unregistered/uninsured  I didn't have protected no claims though, so I lost all of it. TBH the police didn't seem to want to know either.

Yes, you will have to declare this for any future quotes, but you'll still keep your NCB as it's protected.

To get an idea to see how/if it will affect future insurance premiums is to enter the information on for example confused.com with what your info would have been before and after the accident.

Agree with the points made by mrcow.
    1. No, it won't affect the cost of renewal with your current insurer as your NCD is protected, unless you have made previous claims and your policy specifies that you are allowed "x" number of claims during "y" years of cover. You'll need to check your policy wording.
    2. Yes, you will have to disclose this as an accident for future quotes. But you should make the circumstances of the accident clear and the quoting insurer may give you a quote accordingly.
Your decision will probably depende upon whether you are looking to stay with your current insurer or shop around at renewal. If you're happy with your current insurer, then I'd made the claim. If you're looking to change insurers, than you'll need to weigh up the pros and cons.

    Hope that this helps.

    Heya,

Thanks to both of you for the info. I tend to change insurer every year as the price tends to be 150 quid cheaper elsewhere, and they can never match it! Am with TESCO at the moment so will ring them and discuss my options.

    Thanks again.
