Solicitors when selling and buying

Hi guys
May sound like a stupid question but bear with me!
We are looking to sell our flat and buy a house - do you use the same solicitor to do all the selling legal stuff AND all the buying legal stuff? So you only have one solicitor through the whole process.
If so - if we had our conveyancing etc done by Your Move legal team (to sell our flat) and bought a house through Haart (for example) would the Your Move legal team do ALL of our legal bits and bobs for the whole move?
Any help appreciated!

Yes. One solicitor does the lot for you in one go.0

I suggest that you look for a specialist conveyancers - they are solicitors that only do house work so do not have to fork out for the insurance that solicitors do - and they are dealing with just house sales so know the market inside out - they are cheaper too.
Ours saved his fee twice over and was half the price of a solicitor.0 -

Absolutely use the same person but make sure you clarify the costs. Lawyers are the most slippery substance known to man. Ask them how much they will charge and then ask them to put it in writing. Also ask them what these costs cover. If they won't put it in writing send them a note confirming the conversation. If they phone you up for a friendly chat, be very careful. If they talk for 6 minutes, you have just blown 50 quid. Keep it tight and professional with them and keep reminding them of the terms. If they get slightly offended and chippy with you, you are probably controlling the relationship about right.0 -
Also remember to shop around for solcitors as their legal fee can vary by as much as £200+ on both the sale as well as the purchase.
Get a recommendation from friends or work collegues if possible. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Macaque is talking rubbish. With conveyancing there is always a fixed fee you never get charged for a chat - I do the job myself so I know all about it!!
Personally I would avoid any solicitors who are linked to Estate Agents as all they care about is getting you on board cheaply then you get ignored and the service is rubbish. I groan whenever Countrywide Property Lawyers (for example) are on the other side of a transaction.
If there is anything specific you need to know feel free to PM me

Totally agree with BD. We've moved several times and always had a fixed fee from the outset. First move used FIL usual solicitor and it cost a fortune, then Your Moves recommended conveyancer and they were dreadful. The last two, we used specialist conveyancers after shopping around and they were great. Everything was done by post as we are in Kent and they were in Newcastle, we just had to take our passports and driving licences into the estate agents so they could photocopy them and send them to the solicitor for proof of I.D.
Definately shop around, I've never yet found the estate agents conveyancy service cheaper and most certainly not better.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks for the advice guys.
Sounds like I need to ask a few conveyancing firms for a few quotes.
Thanks again.0
