Hi
My wife and I wish to explore Italy first time for a week during Easter in March 2008. I currently have Milan, Florence, Venice in my list of cities. Pls let us know if you are aware of any other nice cities and places in Italy, will appreciate if someone can help us to list down all the 'must see' places in Italy. Is it good to stay in Milan and drive to other places as I will be hiring a car. Is Rome also must visit city? how far it it from Milan?
Also how would be weather there during that time of year?
Cheers

To be honest, if you havent booked flights/hotels by now, I wouldnt hold out too much hope as Rome etc are very busy at Easter.
We are off to Rome in just over a week for the second time, and would highly recommend it, it is the most amazing place we have ever been.If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0 -
No, I haven't yet booked any hotel or flights? so do you think Rome would be the best place to stay in? i was thinking of staying in Milan as it is close to Venice and Florence and then drive for a day or two to Rome?0

Do you know how far away Rome is from Milan? Its about 200 miles.
Do a bit more research, then decide where you want to go.If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0 -
Avoid Rome at Easter. It is the most important date in the Catholic calender, and it will be heaving ( even if you can get accommodation). Try Sept - March if you want to go there ( avoiding Easter).
You could spend a week just in Venice, and if you got bored (!) there, there are easy day trips on the train out to Padua, Verona and Vicenza. Or stay in Padua and day trip to the other cities on the train as they are all on the mainline.
Please focus on one city and it's immediate surroundings, you will get the best of that one as there is so much to see and do. You really won't want to spend all your precious time travelling.
If you do want to do a high-speed 'Grand Tour', go on an organised trip that will maximise your time and take the hassle out of organising a multi-stop trip.0 -

I agree with the above poster and was going to write the same thing! Not only are the flights cheaper reports are its nicer than Milan! Its a easy journey to the lakes as well.
Venice is brilliantand so is Rome but again would agree to avoid at Easter itself but if you go a week after its fine, thats what we did last year. Its wonderful. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0
