Menorca in October

I am looking to book a weeks holiday in the October half term holiday 17th to 24th. I have contacted a couple of travel agents and they are quoting around £1300.
We would ideally like to fly from Leeds/Bradford or Doncaster/Sheffield.
There will be me, my hubby, and 3 boys ages at time of travel 14, 12, 9. We're not fussy as to where in menorca as long as there are shops nearby for food buying. Somwhere with a pool would be nice though.
The travel agent told me that I should go to Crete as Menorca would be out of season in Oct and most of the shops/restaurants would be closed.
Does anyone know if this is true. As I would hate to go and not be able to do anything such as the waterpark.
Any advice appreciated.

where do you want to fly from and what quotes have you already have,
i went there in april a couple of years ago and almost everywhere was closed think the season was may to sept but that could have all changed now
try thompson, travel republic.co.uk ( there is a promo code kicking about) or a holiday search site it will give you an average of whats available
if you give more details i am sure someone will come along to help you,
sorry did not read it fullyIT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!:j:money:0 -
I did think that Menorca would not be that warm in October. It can ruin it, if you don't get the weather, we once went to portugal in october half term and it was frezzing and rained all week, never again:eek:
we have had fab weather in lanzarote and tenerrife in October though 'If you judge people, you have no time to love them'

We used to go away regularly in the October half term, Menorca is okay but Cyprus and Crete had better weather... The price was always similar to summer prices. Have you considered doing it independently? An apartment would give you 2-3 bedrooms and with flights and car hire £1300 would cover it easily. look at holiday-rentals.com0

I can only agree, go for eastern med.
I went to Majorca once in October & the rain was terrible.0 -
as far as i am aware, Menorca does pretty much close down for winter from october.
our first trip there was 14 years ago, and we went 25/26th September ish. first few days ok, some emtertainment on the apartment complex patio, then as soon as we hit october it all stopped. we were told they can have heavy rains in october so they don't book outdoor entertainment (and btw, we got one of those rain storms - OMG!)
perhaps some of the bigger resorts are different, as ours was only small, and perhaps since then times have changed. i personally wouldn't go back to Menorca in October, but i would go back any summer month as it's beautiful.Blonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)0 -
I have spent the last two October half terms in Menorca. 2006 was red hot and we had a fab time swimming and lazing on beaches, but quiet time because some of the bars/restaurants had closed. 2007 though was much cooler though (plus a day or rain) and was ideal for getting out and about to see the island but not sunbathing weather. We visited all over and if you are nearer one of the bigger resorts or the likes of Mahon or Ciutadalla you will have little problem with bars and restaurants closing as there are so many. The smaller resorts do just pack up though with little notice or regard for where the tourists will eat!0

I've been to both Majorca and Menoca in October when my boys were babies. The weather wasn't baking hot - more like a warm summers day here. Warm enough for sunbathing and swimming, and nice for walking round in. It got a little cool on a night so you might need a light jacket or cardigan.
Places were starting to shut down for the season though in the resorts and some attractions had already closed. Here I go again on my own....0 -
