Reasonable snow/ski holidays?

Hubby wants a snow/ski hol for Xmas 08. Looking at 4 people going.

I was thinking it would be nice to get a chalet/lodge self catering type of thing that was near enough to drive too. That way we could load the car up & bring xmas with us. Open fire would be good!

I'm thinking parts of germany & places like that? Because I'm waiting for a European Centre Parcs book but I think they do winter sports at two of their southern Germany ones.

They are not mega expensive & are SC.

Anyone go on SC snow/ski hold got any recommendations.

Really would like the car & ferry option, as I plan on bringing xmas, rather than being disapointed if I can't get things I have here.

Also hit on Germany as that very Xmasy, didn't they start xmas trees in the house & xmas cards & they have the xmas markets.

I've been sking once donkeys years ago (when God was a boy) & the others are newbies.
