working tax credit

I'm currently on maternity leave and was told by the tco that I'm entitled to working tax credit whilst on leave. I phoned today and was given a figure which seems really low and nowhere near the figure quoted on the calculator on the inland revenue website or entitled to.

I'm wondering if the difference is the working tax element. I'm a newly single mum of 4 (inc a new baby). My question is (finally), will I get working tax credit whilst on maternity leave?

  • You are entitled to WTC as long as you are being paid maternity pay by your employer.
If you are unhappy about the estimate you can call again to check but when asked if you are employed say yes and when asked how many hours p/week you work tell them how many you were working before you went on leave.
