No Ethernet Driver

I have just formatted my brothers PC and reinstalled windows XP. When I go to connect to the Internet to run for updates I have found that I have not installed the drivers necessary for the Ethernet as my brother has lost them. How do I find out what drivers I need and where can I get them.

Is it a ready built system?

    Which manufacturer is it?

Is the ethernet on an expansion card or is it onboard?

How old is the PC? You should not need any drivers

    First, Unknown Device Identifier

You'll need some removable storage to get the program on your brother's PC(I know that you didn't need me to tell you).

Then Google will be your friend.
  • Install SP2
Look on the motherboard driver cd. Normally on there. Update driver and browse to the cd/drivers/lan

Good idea - get a disc with SP2 on it, that will contain a lot of generic drivers for things such as ethernet, another bonus is making the PC more secure before you access the Internet.

I dont have much of anything. I have the computer with newly installed windows XP. But no ethernet driver. When I go into internet options the folder is empty. I have no idea what is in the computer. I recon I lost most information when I formated the the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system. I didnt realise what disc's where missing till I needed them. I have my own computer and numerous usb flash drives, I just need to know what to look for and where.

You can download the full SP2 from here

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

Put it on you flash drive, then copy it to the PC you need to install it on, and run it :)
