if it has 2 sticks of RAM (the cover for the ram is on the bottom, square panel) take one out and try running it for a while, if it still locks then try the other

if you have a lot of USB stuff plugged in , try removing everything from the USB ports and running it for a while

just replace it, look at the type of SDram it is , should be on the sticker on the ram, and find another , possibly increase the amount of ram at that time to make it run faster

Is it overheating? Have you checked the vents? Is the fan on all the time?

Is it free from malware? sp2? firewall on? All drivers installed properly in start, run, devmgmt.msc

start, run, eventvwr might reveal something. Any pattern to the freezing?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

try this to fix any registry problems

    http://www.download.com/3000-2094_4-10794712.html

fully working 30 day trial (using it myself) just install and run "1-click" then let it fix everything
