Best Hoover when you've got pets?

The last few months I have bought 3 hoovers and every one was rubbish (the turbo tool packing up after 3 uses!!!). I just wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations on the best hoover to buy when you've got pets, I've got a long haired german shepherd and theres always hair everywhere and the only carpet I've got is on the stairs and landing so the turbo type tools are really important.
I know this is a really insignificant thing but its driving me mad, I'm fed up of spending and hour cleaning the stairs!!!!! Any help/advice would be much appreciated

We recently bought the slightly more expensive version of this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000HEYYQA/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= that comes with the animal brush & it gets the carpets brilliantly clean.Winnings

You will probably find the same problem I have, if you find a turbo head that will pick the hairs up, it will quickly get knotted up with the long hair. (I use a Miele Cat & Dog now which is the best I've ever owner, but still gets clogged up quickly with long dog hair).
The quickest way I have found is to get a pair of shoes with plasticky soles (like crocs or cheap trainers) and slide your feet across the floor. It makes most of the fur clump together, and then you can just hoover the clumps up with the nozzle. Then use the turbo brush to pick up what is left.
I also have a 'brush' with rubber bristles, which does basically the same job, but crocs do it a lot faster and more efficiently. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -

I have 3 cats (two longhairs) and recently bought a vax swift. It does the trick so far, but have heard that they lose their suction power after a wee while. It has a turbo tool that you can open up and clean out very easily. I would recommend this cleaner for you.0

My old dyson 01 was without doubt the best for animal hair.
It packed up when it became a teenager tho and I've since replaced it with a Sebo upright.
Not a bad pick-up rate but unstable if using the hose and needs bags. It has a good guarantee though.:wave:0 -
