Help needed please, i have always had and used a gas cooker and what with the new kitchen about to be ordered on Wednesday next week i am needing a new cooker to go in it. My problem is that i do not know what to get.
I will be getting a big range type cooker 5-6 hobs 2 ovens and maybe a grill depending on what i decided. But i hate cleaning the cooker and gas hob cleaning gets on my nerves lol. Lots of the cookers are dual fuel and i have fell in love with one that is just electric too.
I need your inputs please on whats better gas, electric or is duel fuel the way to go?
And if anyone knows what is better both economically and environmentally i would be most appreciative.
Big thanks in advance

ElectricI can only guess as I don't really know that gas is probably cheaper but I have used electric for the past 20yrs and would never go back to gas.. I have a halogen hob and it wonderful just wipe spills up with a cloth and its shining and clean again in the blink of an eye.. no soaking and scrubbing and taking apart to put back together in my mind its NO CONTEST.. the oven also stays much cleaner than my old gas oven and it has an oven cleaning system although I still have to clean the bottom of the oven...
EDIT: forgot to add that I have a double oven and it is much much easier to clean because it isn't 'under' the hob but separate and the doors just lift off and you can get into the ovens so much easier than if its floor standing...
of course there will be those that always prefer gas...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

GasTo be honest I can't comment on Dual Fuel, but I can't cook on electric - in comparison with gas its very unresponsive and very slow! I was glad to move out of my last flat and get back to gas!

sorry tanith I am definitely a gas lover when it comes to cooking.I have tried electric cookers but they are just too unresponsive for my liking and cooking in an electric oven is like a disaster zone for me as I just burnt everything.I have a range cooker with two big ovens and we paid extra to have it just gas and not dual fuel as a lot of the other ranges were gas hob and electric ovens.I dont find them hard to clean as the modern ovens are all self clean anyway.Gas is the cheapest option though

ElectricI love electric. When we came to the uk 18 months ago, it was the first time I had ever cooked on gas. I find it temperamental and harder to clean than my old ceramic hob. If I had the choice I would have all electric.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

Duel fuelWe've got an all electric range with a griddle on top (bain of our lives for cleaning).
Had a gas cooker some years ago and loved the fact that it was 'instant'.........advantage with our electric one is on really cold days when dinners served up we leave the door open and let the heat waft out till it cools down.
I wish I'd had one with those flatglass
wipe over tops..............so easy to clean.
OH would opt for gas I know and he is normally in charge of the kitchen........he always feels more in control..........if he turns the heat down it goes down straight away, no waiting like you do with electric.
Really if we'd thought it out more thoroughly we'd have had a mixture I think.Mary

Duel fuelWe have a range style thing. 5 gas burners with 1 regular sized oven and 1 smaller one, side by side, they are electric.
There is a grill element in both of the ovens.
If you have any large sized baking sheets ir roasting tins, then take them with you when you go looking. My larger oven is smaller than my mum's oven, when I bought a disposable tray for the turkey, I had to bend it to fit in my oven.
This is the first time I have had a gas hob, and apart from the cleaning issue, I love it.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Gas hob and electric oven everytime for me.
I love the speed of a gas hob, no waiting for it to heat up etc but when we had a gas oven i found that the side of the food nearest the flame was always burnt and I really hated having to turn the oven dish every 10 mins to ensure even cooking0 -
ElectricI have a gas hob and electric oven now. I hate using gas. I hate the thought of having a really nice ceramic hob cooker in the garage I can't use because this one came with the house we're renting. Fan assisted oven on it too which you also don't usually have to wait for it to preheat. Oh and the 'defrost' function on my fan assisted oven has saved dinner a few times. One day I might be more organised...........

Gaspersonally i would go for gas. it is a personal choice but i cant be doing with waiting 20 mins for electric oven to heat up.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
