LCD or Plasma advice please

  • LCD, plasma! power hungry expensive toy's picture quality Hmmm! longevity ? HD transmissions (subscribe to the Sky bandit) and there are not that many. The demo's you see in stores like Dixon's are from DVD's they look good but are not HD transmissions. Why would you want to view the crap on tv in large screen HI DEF anyway?. Save your money stick with your old CRT or if it's broke buy a new one you can still get them at very good prices

Obviously never heard of "Upscaling" a good HD set will upscale to near HD Quality.

no it won't - if it's not HD in the first place it never will be and if your statement was any where true, why are all the broadcasters producing programmes in HD when if all they have to do is carry on making them in SD and up-ressing them or leaving it to the viewer's tv at home to upscale the image - the cost of making programmes in HD is massive in comparison to producing them in SD - what you see on your HD screen may look good to you but when you compair it to true HD source material you will really see the difference

letsbehonest - totally agree with you there - crt definatly the best option for viewing quality

For SD I think CRT is still the best. It's a pity we don't get any decent HD CRT sets in the UK. Regarding Digital you DON'T need to buy a digital TV as all that means is it has a freeview tuner built in. Remember you can still use an external Freeview box, Sky box, Cable box or later this year Freesat box.

The OP wasn't asking about CRT, he/she was asking about LCD/Plasma.

i had a crt Hitachi form new i had proplems with it,told currys i were'nt happy cos it was only 1yr old 32inch it was & it filled the corner of my room:eek: it was massive, they had a for over 6wks so had to give me the cash back, thats when i bought the Lexsor 27 inch the cuy in the store said although the set i had before was a 32" i only had a screen something like29"from corner/corner so the size of the tv really was just to cool the thing down so to speak........where as the Lexsor screen is actually 27" from corner to corner so we didn't lose that much really, but gained a hell of a lot with the space though and its working a treat to.

that's the only problem with hd crt - samsung do one called the slimfit but it does not have good reviews, sadly I do think it's the end of the crt - other option for the purists out there is to get a sony hd crt monitor - now they are huge but the image is stunning
