Dell SE198WFP monitor - how to adjust brightness?

Hi folks.
Just taken delivery of this and generally very pleased. However, I must be particularly dense as I can't find a way of turning down the glare. Physically pressing the brightness button at bottom right generates a black box with options onscreen - but the mouse arrow disappears as it meets this box!
What on earth am I doing wrong?
Please help if you're a user who's overcome this!

You can't use the mouse to control these on-screen display settings, you must use the buttons on the actual display casing / bezel to alter the brightness settings up and down.
(The pointer is disappearing as the on-screen display is covering the computer display!)0 -
Is it connected by a 'normal' VGA cable, or a DVI cable?
If it is DVI, I'm sure you can't change it?0 -
The cable is a VGA.
Pressing the centre button simply produces this small black box in the centre of the display which offers 3 options: brightness, contrast or exit! I can't get beyond that.
There must be something blindingly obvious which I'm not doing!0 -
Try using the other buttons to navigate the on screen menu, one will act as select, then two will act as left and right, or up and down, and one will usually cancel or return to the menu - I'm sure there must be either a printed manual on a manual for the display on your hard disc somewhere...0
-
The other buttons are for other things, apparently. I'll have to run the monitor cd and see what I missed.0
-
Are you sure? They all work in a similar way.
I've search the support at Dell, as I don't have this monitor, the manual can be found at: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/SE198WFP/en/preface.htm
How the on-screen display works...
1. Press the Menu button to open the OSD menu and display the main menu.
2. Press the - and + buttons to move between the setting options. As you move from one icon to another, the option name is highlighted. See the table below for a complete list of all the options available for the monitor.
3. Press the MENU button once to activate the highlighted option.
4. Press - and + button to select the desired parameter.
5. Press MENU to enter the slide bar and then use the - and + buttons, according to the indicators on the menu, to make your changes.
6. Press the MENU button once to return to the main menu to select another option or press the MENU button two or three times to exit from the OSD menu.
Brightness/ Contrast - Brightness adjusts the luminance of the backlight.
Adjust Brightness first, then adjust Contrast only if further adjustment is necessary.
Push the + button to increase luminance and push the - button to decrease luminance (min 0 ~ max 100).
Contrast adjusts the degree of difference between darkness and lightness on the monitor screen.
Push the + button to increase the contrast and push the - button to decrease the contrast (min 0 ~ max 100).0 -
Thanks for that. Mission accomplished thanks to your good self.0
