video editing, please help

Hi I have some video footage which was shot on a mobile phone (3gp file), the footage is now on my pc and i want to edit it, i.e crop a bit of my living room out of it (have the decorators in) and then put it back on my mobile and send it to someone.
My question is, How do i do this, I have googled for ages but to no avail. Various software progs say they can do it but i dont wanna spen $19.99 for the privalage.

i've done the conversion to an avi in the past but for the life of me I cant remeber the software I used to do it.

I've gota nokia and just used the suite of software which came with it to turn the avi back into a 3gp file.

I've done a quick search and found this - I cant say how good etc it is as Ive not tried it.

Do you mean to crop it as in make the part you see of the whole film smaller to cut out part of the image (as you would with a still image) or to clip out part of the film therefore making the whole film shorter?

What i want to do is cut out part of the image if poss, just like a still image.
