Hi first time post, so be gentle.
My dad has recently found an old Bank Account he has with Lloyds Bank.
It has about £800 in it.
He went down to another branch as the original no longer exists to enquire about it.
They told him that they no longer have any records of that account and Lloyds is now part of TSB.
Is is about around 15 years old I think.
Where does he stand...?
Can he still get any of his own money back...?
Thanks.

Lloyds is not part of TSB. They merged to form LloydsTSB (although it was really Lloyds buying TSB although structured as a merger). For a while Lloyds and TSB branches operated under LloydsTSB name but couldnt access each others details. i.e. if you went inot an ex TSB branch, you couldnt get details of Lloyds accounts. That has changed but it is possible that there are still some areas where archived data isnt available to ex TSB branches.
If the account is from 15 years ago, then it would appear on their computer system, even if it went dormant. However, when the branch closed, the accounts would have been transferred to another branch and it may be that branch that you need to make the enquiry at. They may require more data to do a search. Knowing the sort code of the old branch (which the bank should be able to find out) or the one the old branch merged to should be enough with the surname and date of birth to locate the account details.
Try and find out what branch holds the accounts of the old closed branch and go there to find out.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The simplest thing to do is probably to fill in a dormant account form - available from the British Bankers Association (it can be done online or via post)
Put down all the relevant details, they will send to LloydsTSB who will work out what has happened to the account and repay any balance to your father.
