Haylibo there has NEVER been a rule - it is something which has come about from word of mouth, but there has never been a rule which categorically states the number of nights a boyfriend/girlfriend can stay over without it affecting benefits. If it were to be investigated, a great deal of questions would be asked and then a decision would be made as to whether you were living together as husband and wife.
  • To be perfectly honest, he will be moving in sometime around June. He can't get out of the rent contract for his flat until then. 4-5 nights is the maximum. Last week he stayed 3 nights, some weeks he doesn't stay at all! I think probably 3 nights is the average for him actually staying all evening and sleeping over, but he does visit pretty much every day. Does anyone know where I would need to write to / call to advise them of the situation to get a definite answer, as you ahve suggested?
Many thanks for all your input - it's all a bit complicated! It would help if they had a general guideline about this, as i'm sure it is something that comes up quite a lot. Obviously they would need to state that each circumstance is judged on it's own merits, but it would be useful to have a rough idea what the rules are!!
