Council housing advice

i know things have changed nowadays, but my mum and dad put their/our names on the council house waiting list when i was born in 1970 (we were living in a 2 bed flat above a animal rescue centre with damp and lots of bouts of fleas). my brother came along in 1973.
we just waited and waited (never quite got enough points - and they wouldn't have caused a fuss) and finally got one in 1984 when i was 14 and my brother 11 - the reason being that mixed sex teenagers should not share bedrooms i think.
good luck x0 -

Just wanted to say I feel for your friend and hope she gets her housing problems sorted out soon, also I think shes lucky to have you as a friend. I know other people have suggested contacting Shelter and a local Councillor but has she also thought about contacting her Member of Parliament for help? The reason I say this is that the first job I had when I left school was actually in an area housing office and I know for a fact that things did seem to progress more quickly if an MP or local councillor was involved in helping with the problem. The people I worked with used to jump out of their skins if a member of parliament or their secretary ever phoned the office or wrote and it was pretty much the same if a local councillor was involved,
Hope this helps and that she gets her move sooner rather than later as it sounds like shes getting really depressed with things so will need all the help and support she can get.loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0 -

You've already had loads of really useful suggestions and I can't think of anything further to add. Just wanted to point out that the above quote is untrue. There are no legal requirements re opposite sex children sharing bedrooms only guidelines. These do vary, but generally it is that male and female children should have separate bedrooms when one is over the age of 10 years."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
Alleycat is correct, there is no law regarding children of any age sharing bedrooms.Gone ... or have I?0

But wouldn't dream of posting the details here....the judgement brigade are always in the wings!!!!
Good job she doesn't want to enquire about RTB...that subject yields all sorts of unnecessary abuse to the OP!!!0 -

OOPS
Source was unreliable and wrong.. sorry!!
According to various council housing policies, children of 10 years are classed as adults in regard to housing... weird I know!! It isn't actually law more of a guideline that they shouldn't share.
sorry for posting inaccurate infoKeely0
