Was curious about your suggestion Aril, so went a googling..
is this the tyoe if thing they did? Sure it can be made to look more effective than this example though, especially with a single picture & the book the right way round. AN appropriate titled book would make it even more effective.

Not sure if it's just me, but I can't get your link to work - could you repeat it as the idea sound interesting (as long as no previously undamaged books were destroyed in the making of!)

Re the book cover/ picture frame idea yes you're on the right lines. Now I'm back at home I've got the original article to hand. They have the book cover on the inside with the spine running down the middle and then they cut ovals out each cover for the photos. You then stick plastic across where the photos go and strengthen the back of the book cover with cardboard. The last stage of the frame is to cover the back with a decorative paper. It was adapted from Readymade by Rosanna Berger and Grace Hawthorne.
In the article they also made cushion covers from vintage scarves, notebooks from old record covers, scrapbooks decorated with patchwork pieces, heartshaped lavendar pockets from felt with blanket stitch on outside edge [these could be hung up], decorated mirror frames using foil sweet wrappers, fridge magnets made from various shapes cut out from MDF then decorated according to taste and finally place mats decorated from pictures cut out from magazines and then laminated. The article came from the Guardian [1/12/07] and was very inspiring.
