I've got a £5,700 tax bill to pay and was thinking of paying it on my Barclaycard which had 4% cash back in January. HMRC impose a 1.4% credit card transaction fee which would be OK, but if Barclaycard card treat it as a cash transaction they will not pay the 4% cash back and will instead charge 2.99% cash transaction fee, which would suck as then using my Barclaycard would cost an extra 4.39% :-(

Does anyone know if Barclaycard treat tax payments to the HMRC add cash transactions? I've asked Barclaycard and they are unable to tell me before the transaction takes place.
