Recording from sky box onto HDD recorder query

Hi,
I have a Sony HDD recorder (rdr-hx525). I am considering getting a basic sky box but I am not sure if my HDD recorder is able to connect to and record from sky like it does from terrestrial TV. I don’t want to have to pay £99 for sky plus which does not have the option for burning onto disc.
Thanks

Thanks Alan.
Are you saying my HDD will not record from sky automatically? Or do you not nkow for sure?
Has a quick look and it's not obvious to me (with not being much of a technical kinda person) how it will solve my problem. I will get my partner to have a read later today.0 -
Hi Espresso
I really like the HDD and have had no problems with it over the 2 years I have had it. But the manual is rubbish and info on it's compatability with sky is limited. The link was helpful thank you.
I might take my HDD to my partners Mum's home as she has a basic sky box and test it out there to be sure.0 -
Sony seem to put their name on a lot of other manufacturers stuff these days but there is no excuse for a rubbish manual, especially at the prices they charge. I refuse to buy Sony stuff now. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I know where your coming from, they can be very over priced. However, I think the model I have was well rated by which. And when I got it there were not many to choose from.0

Id have thought that you would be able to connect them with a scart, and then select the source in the PVR, but thats a guess. If you can try it out, that would be the best way.
Copy+ would be of no use to you at all Im afraid."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
Most hard disk recorders only record from their own digital tuner ( ire no av input)
Most DVD recorders have AV input, and will record from most inputs ( but not always copy protected stuff) as well as the intermal tuner
Yours look like a mixture of the 2 , and as its got AV input and I believe a
Analogue Terrestrial Tuner , you think should be able to use with a sky box,Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
