Please advise a good graphics card for my new system?

I went for this system with XP and 1 GB more ram please recommend a graphics card (see below).
  • AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ DualCore Processor (3 years manufacturers warranty), can be up-graded, see below.
  • System is built around the quality ASRock AM2 AliveNF6G-VSTA motherboard (2 years manufacturers warranty).
  • Colors-It 8037 ATX midi-tower case with 400watt PSU, this case can be upgraded, see below.
  • 1GB of 240pin DDR II branded memory, can be up-graded upto 8Gb, see below.
  • 160GB Maxtor SATA II hard drive (3 years manufacturers warranty), can be upgraded upto 500gb,see below.
  • ASuS 18X DVD+/-RW Dual layer Drive. This will also play and record CD/CD-RW (all in the same drive).
  • 10/100 LAN network connection and USB II connections (2 USB front and 4 back).
  • This comes with integrated nVidia 6100 graphics with upto 256mb of shared memory.
  • PCi-Express slot for future graphic upgrades, see below.
  • 7.1 surround sound output (ALC888 Audio Codec).
  • Windows Vista ready with Direct X 9.
  • Bare Bones Machine "no operating system". VISTA or XP operating systems available if required see below.

The above is the computer I am getting I cannot afford right now to get a graphics card but will be able to in a months time.

I do not want to spend a lot on one so need somebody to recommend a good pci-express card 16x graphics card for about £50-70 needed for video editing and the occasional games playing.

Thanks

Paul

Well, there are new Graphics cards coming out all the time so it's dificult to reccomend one now as we don't knwo exactly what will be available in a month's time or what the pricing will be. However generally speaking £50-70 is not really a big enough budget for something that will play modern games well so it depends what games you're on about.

Your best bet is to go to https://www.tomshadware.co.uk as they do a monthly roundup of the best cards at various price points. For example this is the latest one.

I would say if the X1950 Pro is in your price range when you come to buy it would be a good choice but is not DX10 compatible. That shouldn't really be an issue but is worth bearing in mind. Other than that I have seen Radeon 3850 cards for £90 so they may be in your budget by then and are very good for the money.

    If you can't stretch to a £200 8800GT then get the £70 8600GT.

You may want to consider this one for less money (£50 cashback from HP and Quidco bring it down to about £180)
Faster processor, 2GB Ram and 250GB HDD and Vista Home included

    HP dx2250 - MT ATHLON 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz 2GB 250GB DVD-RW VISTA HOME BASIC 1-1-1

It has a PCI-e slot for a dedicated graphics card too. Very good machine for the money!

CHR15 thanks for this but considering my old computer had one processor at 1.6 then this will be a fast enough processor for me and I went for XP as it is a stable ststem wheras vista basic certainly is not.

I have bought it from PC Assist going to pick it up tomorrow.
