RealPlayer and BBC Bitesize Problems

Hi, Not sure if anyone can help, I am not tech in any way, My son is using BBC bitesize for GCSE revision but when it comes to Music we cant get RealPlayer to play the music clips, we have no other problems with RealPlayer. I have just done a search on this board and it seems it could just be the BBC websites with RealPlayer, the only advice I could see would be to remove Itunes but I am sure my son will not be happy to do this. Just wondering if anyone had more advice.

Thanks

Shellyd

Does it report a connection issue.
I know I have problems using the BBC site when behind a corporate firewall (I won't go into more detail), but Realplayer will play offline files fine, just not streaming.
  • thanks for your reply, Yes the real player box comes up but when I click on it to play it say it can't get a connection.

    Thanks Shellyd
  • Are you using a firewall or router, they can block realplayer.
    if so, see this. http://service.real.com/firewall/

Check with the website of the manufacturer of your firewall and see if they have a document on how to let the connections through.
Don't turn the firewall off though.

Thanks for the reply, I use zone alarm free (think this is a firewall) or AVG free, I have checked the list and I can't find either.

    Thanks Shellyd

Hi, I thought I would try and download the latest realplayer, and it now works fine, just out of interest when zone alarm pops up that Realplayer is trying to access a trusted zone is it always safe to accept, even when realplayer is not in use.

Sorry to have to ask, I would normally just deny and have it remembered, ( don't really understand how these things work) but this may have been the reason why it wouldn't work before.

    Thanks
