Hi everyone
I'd like to plan a surprise trip to Jamaica for my OH.
I have no idea where abouts in Jamaica we should go, so any advice on that would be hugely appreciated and if anyone could recommend a particular resort/ hotel that would also be fab.
Is April a good time to go? And where would be the best place for me to start looking for a package deal.
Sorry so many questions.
Thanks in advance

We stayed here about 5 years ago. www.riu.com/en/hotel-riu-tropical-bay-negril-jamaica.html At the time we booked with Airtours but i think Riu are part of the Thompson group now.
The hotel and beach were fantastic, it was quite a distance about, 2 hours, from the airport [ Montego Bay] and the road was rough, but they were in the process of building a new road. There is an airfield at the back of this hotel, was just light aircraft when we were there. I believe you can transfer from the airport this way.
This was great for a beach holiday, you may have to travel a bit to see some of the more popular attractions, the hotel did do tours, i thought they were quite pricey, I'm sure with a bit of research on the net you could do better.0 -
Jamaica was one of the places we docked on my recent cruise (Nov 2007)
The new road still isn't completed (7 years late now according to our tour guide)
We were on a trip to a waterfall that you climb called Dunns river falls (lots of fun but I did slip a few times) so didn't see much of Jamaica, but I know that it looked a lot "rougher" than I had imagined it to.
I would still go back though, to have a proper look as we never went anywhere near a beach while we were there.
Tried Jerk Chicken thinking it would be spicy and it wasn't at all, that was disappointing as I love hot food, lol.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Can anyone tell me if April is a good time to go? I wouldn't want to book something in the wrong season.
We just want a really relaxing holiday.

Go to Negril beach - we just got back from there last week - stay on the cliffs if you want a chilled out experience or stay on the beach if you want a bit more excitement. Check out the Jamaica forums on tripadvisor as they are a font of information. No matter when you go you'll have a great time - except during the hurricane season (Officially the hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30). There are lots of all-inclusive resorts there but I highly recommend staying in independent hotels/resorts and getting a feel for the culture.0
