My daughter asked for an eee pc for xmas as she is a student and we agreed it would be ideal for carrying to uni and back. She loves it, and was fine with linux and open office. Unfortunately the technicians at uni have told her she can't access their network without windows and a lot of her stored work isn't compatible with open office. I have spent hours reading forums on shrinking xp and putting it on the eee. I have just about got the jist of it but they are a bit technical. Have any of you done this and could you give me an idiots guide? I haven't got an external cd drive but have been told I can use my laptops dvd drive over a network, don't know if thats true? All help is gratefully recieved as her pressy is not much use at the mo. Thanks.

To install Windows on to the eee you will not be able to use your laptop dvd drive over the network. You will need to get an external USB drive to plug directly into the eee. Once you have this it is quite straightforward. I believe that Asus even give you all the drivers on DVD as well.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. From Wiki:Whilst the software package does not include Windows XP, it does include copies of the drivers and instructions necessary to install a separately-purchased copy at a later date. It was announced on October 16, 2007, that a future version of the Eee will be sold with Windows XP.[3] Microsoft agreed to lower the price of Windows for Eee PC users to under US$40
20 pounds? That is good.

Hi vix2000, there is a guide here that only requires the use of a USB flash drive;

Hope it helps.0
