Get a WinXP Pro CD and buy any computer that suits and boot up with the WinXP pro in the drive
You don't have to specifically look and buy a machine with XP pro on it
Personally if it Vista on the machine I'd keep it and forget XP pro

Would you not need to install all the drivers etc too?
Plus would you not need an XP license key?
Check out www.dmxdimension.com, they have links to the cheapest dell machines and some still are avail with XP0 -

No No No.
Some of the very new computers may only have drivers available for Vista.
Especially graphics drivers.
Try browsing through Wizmark for Dells.

You shouldn't really have to pay any more for XP Pro than Vista. They should be around the same price. Apparently Dell think this is somewhere they can make a quick killing. (asking 60-70 quid more for XP Pro on some machines)0 -
Given the budget I very much doubt it'll be top, top of the range with Vista specific hardware, do you

Plus I said if it has Vista on it I'd keep it

The computer I have at the moment has windows xp on it and as it is a lot of years old, I want to buy a new one. I like windows xp, I do not want a Dell, plus my printer and scanner are all set up fo my computer. I am completely non techie so I don't know how I would be able to connect accessories. I got money for Xmas and want to get a new computer with windows xp or pro. I do not need top of the range just a basic computer. I only use it for emailing, pictures, music and browsing the internet.0

Why do you want a new one? Whats wrong with what you have?
If you ]have an xp cd then you can put that on any pc that you buy. When it comes to activation ring them up and say you have changed to xp, give them your vista key and you are away. However it is non reversable and you will need some tekkie savvy to install xp and all the xp drivers for the new systemNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
I'd check-out the local papers free-ads but, for £400 you really should be able to find a very good PC (or even a laptop) at your local PC shop and or PCworld ...
Many moons ago now, I used to screech in horror at moving upto XP from 98 but, after awhile I decided to do it and in all honesty you get used to it ... windows is windows abit like nokia is nokia regardless of the model they all operate under the same guise

I want a new one because my ancient computer is running slow. I have tried everything to get it to go faster, the outside casing is damaged and I have an old crt monitor. I got money for Xmas and this is what I have decided to buy. I don't know anything about putting cds on computers, it is an intel celeron processor 1.7 ghz and is very noisy. I just want to buy a new pc. Thanks for your help.0 -

I wish people would stop saying this. The ONLY versions of Vista you can downgrade are Ultimate and Business. The majority of computers do NOT come with these versions as standard. :rolleyes:0 -
You can always install Microsoft's free Virtual PC, and install XP and software to run in a session, for compatibility, certainly an option worth considering. Many good manufacturers will let you specific XP Pro on a new build too.0
