how to create a flash based website for a total beginner please

I am going to make a website. Just bought a domain name, but know NOTHING about doing a website or what I need. I am ok with html that;s about it. I like the look of flash based websites and it needs to have a free chatroom on it, a friend is going to let me have it on their server (whatever that means) i have googled it loads but its too complicated for me any ideas or links?

Wow, what a jump your making here. You barley know HTML and you wanna use flash ?

I have been making webpages for years in my own time and still can't use flash lol. To make it you need either the official flash software or look for an alternative on download.com.

From their id look for some tutorials and read through em,

Why not just download a free flash chat program ?

This program makes building flash site easy although many flash site do not work on pda, mobile phones and are not the best way to get a good listing

Learning flash is like learning spanish or french. You are sort of asking "how to i write my first novel in french, by the way i can't speak french"

You really need to take a step back and decide whether you are going to be using flash for the right reasons. Flash is perfect for some sites, for most it is extremely annoying to use and badly done. HTML is by far an easier starting block and probably more suitable.

I should look into the following applications:

a) Microsoft Frontpage
b) Adobe Dreamweaver
c) Apple's iWeb (for Macs)

also look at google's free webpage design service:

pages.google.com

i'm not trying to be patronising but flash is not a language for beginners in web design. If you are intent on going flash i'd seek professional help. (web design that is not psychiatric!)

Ok maybe I should clarify. I can use html fine, but I have seen a website who's front page has pictures that move, I presumed this was flash based. Can I do a normal html website but use flash for animating the main page? Or can you not do that?

You can use several programs that will generate basic flash applications for you. Some are listed in the link below, however, not all of them are free.

If your serious about doing it, there are several good books on amazon that will give you a good begineers guide, but if you've never done anything like it before, you'll have to put in a lot of work, its always good as a hobby!
