As a buyer I have done this once - won an album, realised it was one I already owned (DOH) and offered to pay all fees etc.. to the seller and profuse apologies. It was all amicable and positive feedback left all round.

As a seller, I had someone the otherday buy somethign on buy-it-now and then email me to say they had temporarily left the room and their 3 year old had clicked loads of buttons and they were sorry but weren't buying the item. I let this one go as they were a new user with no feedback and I can understand how this could happen. I very nicely said I would not persue the line of non-paying bidder as they were newbie and as long as they left me positive feedback, not to worry about the fees incurred. It miffed me that there was no offer to refund me for the fees and she emailed back to say she'd tried but hadn't left feedback (like its difficult??!?). I haven't the heart to NPB her though or to leave neg as she did sound genuine and the fees were only 20p.

So I guess, 1) I'd never do it to someone again and if I did, I'd apologise and offer to pay all relisting costs. 2) I'd be really annoyed if someone did it in an auction as you then might not get a sale to the 2nd highest bidder but am generally not as nasty about these things as I should to be re. neg feedback!!!

2 days ago I won 2 auctions for some things for my daughter (totaling over £100). I sent payments off on Saturday morning and then bumped in to a mate who offered me EXACTLY the same 2 things for free!
I was gutted but would never go back on a sale so have accepted my misfortune....... next time I must remember to ask my friends before buying things :o
    2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j

A seller should never opt for a 'mutual' FVF reverse, as it is rife with problems. If a seller does go for a mutual it requires email confirmation from the buyer that they agree, if they do not respond to the official ebay email either because they don't understand, or because they are away or something then the FVF claim is closed, the seller does not get their fees back and the claim cannot be reopened.

Unless they've very recently changed the rules regarding mutually agreed unpaid items, this is incorrect. Paraphrasing from http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html ...

    The 3 possible situations are:
    • Buyer agrees - FVF granted, no NPB strike, everyone's happy
    • Buyer disagrees - No FVF, no NPB strike, no chance to re-claim! (bad for seller)
    • No Response - FVF granted, NPB strike given. (bad for buyer)

Well, id be very anoyed if someone bought something and changed their mind. Ive had this a couple of times with people who didnt bother paying, so i just filed a npb with them.

I did have a guy the other day who bought 3 items off me, then told me he actually only wanted 2. I didnt have the heart to file a npb for the 3rd item. Since id just made 50quid profit out of the guy anyway, i just accepted the fee`s for the 3rd item myself and relisted it again.
