LCD TV/ AV amp / Audio Sync Delay-help!?

Hi,
Can someone answer some audio questions for me please?

I have bought an AV amp and I'm looking to hook it up to my tv/sky/xbox

If i take the Phono output from the Samsun LE40M86 LCDTV, the audio is ahead of the picture. If i take the Phono Output from the Sky+ box, the same problem exists. I'm hoping by using optical i will be able to eliminate this problem.
my questions are.......

1. Can i get 5.1 surround sound (my amp is capable) via optical output from the TV. (i've heard it only does stereo)....
2. I've heard SKY HD has an option where you can set a delay for the audio so it matches with the visual, is this on SKY + boxes also?
3. If i take the optical out from my xbox....will the picture still be out with the audio?......an alternative would be continuing with my XBOX connected via VGA and then using the optical out from the TV as they would surely match up? but i'm concerned as i mentioned in question 1 that i would lose the surround sound options etc....

sorry for all the questions.....any replies are much appreciated and i'll keep an eye on the thread tonight and reply with any additional info needed.

p.s i dont have any of the necessary leads and so i cannot test this, hence my post here

I've had similar problems, and often the problem is the broadcast or the file that you're viewing rather than your connections. I think the best way to connect your stuff is just to connect the optical on your xbox and sky to the amp, removing the TV from the loop. You can then connect the phono from the sky to the tv for when you don't want to bother with the amp.
You won't get 5.1 very often, only on films and some sports that sky probably want extra for. I don't have sky but it's likely there is a setting for delay.
I think that routing audio through extra equipment (the TV) is just asking for stuff to get out of sync. My method also means buying fewer cables!
