Barclaycard Boss has his Credit Card Cloned

It was reported on the BBC that the boss of Barclays Bank has had his credit card cloned or a card made up in his name and had £10,000 stolen from him. Do you think someone was trying to make a point?

wonder how long it too him to notice it had gone!No doubt he will have it swiftly refunded unlike my friends son whose card was cloned inATM and took months to be refunded-despite loads of people affected same day and police catching themm!!!

  • Actually, from what I remember from the BBC report, he didn't have a card cloned. A fraudster, apparently using publically available information about the head of Barclays phoned Barclaycard, and asked for a second card to be sent to a different address, and then used that card to withdraw £10K from a Barclays branch.

Barclays have admitted not following their own guidelines, and have refunded their boss the missing £10K - makes you wonder what his credit limit is!

I saw this in The Sun yesterday (only because I am collecting the holiday tokens), but had not been able to verify the story from another source as accurate. Mind you, the BBC is no longer an unimpeachable source, either.

Anyway, the culprit evidently socially engineered call centre staff. I wonder if it was their cheap offshore one?
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

    You are correct.

My point was also that someone was trying to make a point. The number of complaints about Barclaycard on this forum give an indication of the sentiments for Barclaycard.

You don't need the PIN for all transactions especially if they are done overseas.
