i have got away with a 20% mix of petrol in diesel, no bad effects, in fact my engine ran better much to my surprise. sometimes the pumps can be confusing, if so you could have a case that its the fault of the oil company if the petrol nozzel looks the same as the diesel, when i did it shell used blue for the diesel and had put blue ads on the petrol too.0

She (yes, she) insisted that the vans fuel type had not been made clear enough. We put a bright red "DIESEL" tag on the keyring, a similar sticker on the outer fuel flap, one on the inner, one on the cap itself, it is clearly marked on the rental agreement & we verbally informed her of the fuel type. She actually rang the office from the filling station to check - we informed her she was to use the pump with the black hose - unless she was @ a Sainsburys station, in which case it would be yellow (cheers Sainsburys!) & she still ended up putting unleaded in it. Some people are beyond help!!!!!!!!!!
But if you wrote it in reverse on her forehead she would have remembered everytime she looked in the mirror.0 -

Why? Do you have any idea how long it takes to strip the system down to get it all out and build it all back up again? Do you think its just a case of draining the tank?
Erm, yes.. it is... a trivial job.
You disconnect the banjo bolt at the injector rail, energise the fuel pump, and drain the contaminated fuel into a suitable vessel and dispose of it.. fancy a BBQ anyone?
What other magical solutions do you have?
Let me guess..
You drop the fuel tank, or at least, you charge £150 labour for claiming to have done that..
you also claim to have flushed the fuel line out with compressed air, replaced the fuel filter, removed and cleaned fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and the fuel injectors, and re-fitted the whole lot, and re-fuelled the vehicle.
total bill (your way).. £380 for 5 hours labour at £60/hr, £30 new fuel filter and £50 fuel re-fill..
total bill (my way)... nil
as for disposing of contaminated fuel, all local authorities offer disposal facilities, either for free or for a small token charge.. Better still, why not ask your local fire station whether they could use the fuel in their training drill?0
