help! current a/c advice sought

Options
Hi!
I'm a mature student and housewife and would like to open acurrent account in my name only ( I have a joint a/c with hubby) for housekeeping etc. My only income is the housekeeping and a small inheritance- I don't want an overdraft,I'll run it in credit.

Any ideas on the most suitable account. Thank you!

My wife has similar circumstances, thinks Cahoot looks best current account for her, no requirement for a regular payment in & 4.35%/4.25% gross if chequebook option, free £250 overdraft.
Open a Cahoot savings account as well instant switching of funds, pays 5.10% gross mthly interest

Internet Explorer 6 comes with 128 bit encryption. If you are running an older version of Internet Explorer, all you need to do is download the updated version by going to windows update.

If you need any help with instructions on how to do this, i'm happy to help. So basically, just update your browser to the latest version and you will have the correct level of encryption to allow you to log into Cahoot.

If you are not going to use it for SOs and DDs, I would suggest the National Savings account. You get a cash card and withdrawals are free. Interest is tiered. No other charges. Best to open it personally at the Post Office, using a passport. Do not do it through the post as docs get lost.

  • Hi i was thinking of doing the same thing. The only difference is that I have my own current account with hsbc, which my wages go into and which i also use for paying some of the bills. I have also got a joint current account with the OH which also has some DD and SO being paid out of it. I would like to set up another joint account which is soley for household bills so that both the OH and I could transfer money into it every fortnight from Hsbc and barclays accounts to make sure that we have enough money to pay any suprise bill, My darling OH just uses his bank card willy nilly and then panics as there isn't enough funds to pay any bills. Do you think that opening another account is a good idea? Just wanted to have your opinions.

We do this every month. It just makes sure that there is enough set aside for the mortgage, gas, electricity, etc each month and that way anything left in the other main account is ours to budget and spend for the rest of the month. Works for us. Think Martin has written articles on this very subject - jam jars really if you think of it in Old Style MS terms. If it was me I'd probably choose a higher interest paying account as the money is more likely to sit in it a bit longer perhaps esp if you have the DD/SO coming off at the end of the month so your money sits for a few weeks earning a higher rate of interest before being spent!
