i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice/info. Im trying to take a top back to tesco that i bought last week, but cant find the receipt (bought a lot of food from there that day & think ive thrown away the receipt (along with the pineapple that was off when i cut into it & had over charged me at the til.. oh if only i had done the take it back for your money back that day as some salad i bought was also over priced)... anyway, tesco wont let me get a refund in anyway unless i exchange the top for another piece of clothing, which i dont want.
I was told today in store that as long as it was exchanged for "non food stuff" i could exchange it, i asked if dvds fell into this category & the lass told me yes... so off i went to change it for a dvd but the clothes desk told me no - only the clothes desk can deal with clothes coming back... ive searched my house high & low for the receipt & its def. nowhere to be found but i DONT want any other clothes from this tesco store.
Can anyone help me as im getting so frustrated with them. The tickets arwe still on the top so its obvious its not been worn (should have really thought about my shop there that day as this is just dragging out what has been a pants experience with them)... any ideas/advice? Oh & ive now had to leave my details for someone to get in touch with me when i said i wasnt happy with "you will have to keep hold of the top until there is something you like in store & change it them (!)"... but what if i get a manager like chardonney's (from other thread) getting back in touch?!?

You could try taking it back and saying you will accept gift vouchers in return.
As far as the fruit goes, you should have kept it and taken it back next time. The fruit in Tesco has been a bit dodgy recently and I have taken loads back, some a week later and told them it had gone off within a couple of days. They never query it, although I do always have a receipt.0 -
If you use a Tesco Clubcard I would have thought it would be logged on this. You could ask them this. Other than that if you paid by credit/debit card you could take your statement in as proof of payment.0

if it is a fairly new store they may have access to the clubcard tracker but not all stores have this facility. it is policy that no receipt you have to have like for like exchange with department - i work for tesco on non food and i have lost receipts and had to abide by rulesi'm living in a parallel universe0

Did you pay for it via debit or credit card.
Can you not just show the statement to them as proof.

Obviously there is no issue over returning the goods or proving that they were Tescoes thereofre credit card/debit card/clubcard statements will not help. The moral of the story is to look after receipts (and I am the worst in the world for this ... forever rummaging through the bn looking for receipts).
I thought you could ask for a credit. I don't understand why they insist on only clothes... in the past DW has taken stuff back and the money was refunded to her card or, if she had the receipt, she got cash back. I would firmly request a credit, or as someone else suggested vouchers.

My local store has recently changed its policy over returned clothes due to the fact they keep having those discounted weeks.
It seemed that people were buying clothes at 20% off then taking them back a few weeks later saying they had no receipt and getting a full refund. To stop this happening they now insist that clothes returned without a receipt can only be exchanged for more clothes.
Obviously though different rules apply for faulty goods.

A very common piece of deception carried out by the bottom feeders in our society - as usual spoiling it for the majority. That is why many shops will only refund the current price of a garment (if it has come down) or the sales price (if it has recently gone up) if the person does not have a receipt.
I was just talking to DW about this and she was saying a friend of hers always asks the shop to staple the receipt to one of the labels on the piece of clothing. Don't know if I would go that far but if you have a habit of losing receipts then it might be a useful tip.

There is a fair bit of info on this link which I posted previously -
http://www.calderdale-online.org/html/economy/shopping.html
Also states about taking stuff back and not needing a receipt, just a witness, such as the person who served you or if you had someone with you, they have cctv if you can recall when you went then you don't need a receipt, going by the info on here anyway.

I had a gift sent to me for my new baby. Unfortunately my friend has no kids so she bought the wrong size (my baby is big). So I tried to take it back to my local woolworths as I couldn't get up to Liverpool (where she bought it). When I asked if I could do a straight exchange the cashier told me not without a receipt. Now when I had my 1st child I didn't have any problems exchanging without receipt. The woman behind till pretty much accused me of stealing it and told me if I wanted to exchange I'd have to contact my friend to get receipt or in future we should ask people to obtain gift receipts. Anyway I decided to leave that store and a few days later went to a store 20 miles away who couldn't do more to help, they were excellent. It just shows that each store is different as are each individual who works in these stores.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030
