Hi,
The national Express coach is much cheaper but much slower.
It travels thru E. London from Victoria coach station to the M11 and makes stops at various places.Day return worked out about half rail fare and if you are a student may be even cheaper. The final stop in Cambridge is much closer to the colleges than the rail station.Cos the University insisted that the station was built well away from the town so the students would not be corrupted by the coming of the railway.0 -
I've used the national express from victoria several times and is cheap and fairly good service even when i had to pay regular fare.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030

There's a code floating around on here that gives 15% off Nat Express fares which brings the price down even further. Don't know it off hand but a quick search should find it.
If time isn't a concern you could always Megabus it via Oxford for a total of £4.50 return if booked long enough in advance!0 -
Complain to the train operator. It might not get you any immediate benefits, but the prices really are too high.0
