in Credit cards
We have the money set aside and are not in a hurry to install, but when we order our new kitchen, would it be better to order it on a credit card for extra protection in case it isnt delivered fully in a decent timescale, etc? We will be paying it off in full anyway.

You could do what I am doing with my car insurance. Get one of the "0% for xx months on purchases" credit cards. Pay for the kitchen with it. "Ring fence" the required amount in a high interest savings account.
Set up a Direct Debit for the minimum payment from your current account, to protect the 0% deal and avoid any penalty charges. In my case, this is just £5 a month. Obviously, this is going to be higher in your case, and might need to be funded from the savings account.
Well before the interest free period expires (I regularly see posts from people, who have left it 1 day too late and blown the whole 0% deal), transfer the money and pay off the card.
This way, not only is your purchase covered by the credit card guarantee, but also you are paying by instalments and earning (not paying) interest. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
