I have had a FD current account for a couple of years. When they introduced a monthly fee for this account, I opened an e-savings account for no other reason than to avoid the fee. I put £25 in the account and forgot about it.
Just before Christmas I paid a large sum of money into this account as it said on the FD website that it paid 5.25% and "no penalties for withdrawls". I was intending to keep this money in the account for a few weeks at most until I found better "homes" for it.
I discovered this morning that I had not received any interest at all on this money, about £30 a day. I phoned FD and was told that I had an e-savings account which did not pay interest if money was withdrawn that month. The product on the web-site I had consulted was an e-saver account !! I pointed out that the names were almost identical and there was no way that I could find details of the e-savings account on the web-site.They admitted that there were no details of my account on the web-site as it was no longer promoted.
Anyway - the outcome was that they have transferred the money to a newly opened e-saver account and will calculate the interest I would have earned from the e-savings account and will pay that into the new account as well.
Well done Lawrence, well done First Direct !!
BUT - be warned if you have an e-savings account !
