Ideas for handmade card for teenager

I find it tricky to design cards for teenagers, boys in particular. I often just ending up painting a bit of card with a glitter paint, writing "Happy Birthday" in a gold pen across it, then sticking it onto some coloured card. Trouble is you can't do that every year! What do you do for teenagers?

I've had this problem........always easy for my grandaughter (15) but her twin brother its tricky.............he's into computers so his last birthday card I printed off some images of computers and teenagers in general from free clip art sites, cut them out, stuck them on thin card and then onto the birthday card itself.
If they like aircraft or cars or sports of any sort its easier.
I'll be interested to see other ideas not just for my grandson but for the youngsters in my care.Mary

I have a lot of guy friends so I just tend to make boy cards in boy colours - i.e. greens and blues (even though the pack of cards I bought are in pastel colours!) I also have stickers from Woolworth (99p!) with lots of balloons, cakes and 'happy birthday' decorations so I just stick to that. Unless you know they are into something in particular I think its fine just sticking with 'Happy Birthday'! Or invest in car/boat/airplane/sport/music stickers.0

For my teenage nephew who does kung fu, I just googled martial arts images, printed off one I liked, mounted it on card and stuck it all on a plain card. he absolutely loved it because it was personal to him. So just think of what he is into, google images and print..0

What about writing their name or happy birthday in a graffiti style...

Camouflage is good too, skateboarding & ipods.
Will try to think of more"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0 -
For the teenagers I know I'd keep it simple - just stick fivers on the card! Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

When my boyfriend was 18 i got one of those cards with the hole in the middle (like you get for cross stich xmas cards etc), I stuck some see-through film, assetate (sp?) over the hole and then put those little shiny '18' numbers on with some more assetate over to keep them in place. Went down a treat and he still has the card now he's 21 :rolleyes:Virgin CC=£2652, Next= [STRIKE]£102.88,[/STRIKE] Very=£475.60, Natwest=£800, Sainsburys CC=£1777.02, Lloyds CC=£498.29, Lloyds Loan= £13,946.18, Car=£4000Total = [STRIKE]£26,147.23[/STRIKE] £23,849.09:eek:0

Thanks for all the ideas. I admit using some of the ideas for my sons, but never tought about extending it to distant family members. I've also just been looking through some cards that others have seen befor and I found a nice one with acetate and sprinkles, just like Charlie1986 suggested, so will gve that a try I think for Valentines!0
