Need to make a claim on my tesco insurance....daughter managed to drop the dvd recorder carrying it into another room. Rang tesco who got insurance assessor to ring me to arrange collection to check it....they asked for payment of the £50 excess up front...is this normal ? i have never claimed before but the dvd recorder was over £200 .... we should really break out and buy her a cheap one for her room instead of only having the one good one......

They are asking for the £50 excess as you have submitted the claim. They will need to get the DVD recorder inspected which will cost a fee and then replace if necessary. In most cases they will replace, if it is not working,as they can get replacements at a cheap cost.

I surprised you bothered with a claim, as DVD recorders can be purchased quite cheaply these days. With the £50 excess and the increases in premium that will follow in the next few years, I doubt it is worth it.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
