one thing i've noticed whilst reading thses posts over the last few weeks is how often vinegar is mentioned. im a stickler for cleaning and cleaning products so for me this would be another huge money saver....but just one thing.....a few questions.
1) What uses does it have?
2)How do you use it for this use?
3)ok so excactly how cheap
4)and lastly.......where the heck do i buy it from??
everytime i mention vinegar when i read it in these posts oh looks at me like im a complete nutter :-(
look forward to learning :D

Have a look at the index "Sticky" at the top of the forum for most of your answers. There is a mine of information there.

You can buy it at at the supermarket. It is with the ordinary vinegar. I use more brown these days as for most uses it is fine. I only use the white vinegar now on carpets.

The sticky mentioned is our "Collections" sticky at the top of the forum listing, one of which is "Save Zillions on Cleaning".

Or you can find it in the Indexed Collections via the blue bar at the top of the page.

It looks a bit like this:

You can find it along with all the various other kinds of vinegar in your local supermarket. But if you're going to be using alot of it :D , you can get 5 litre bottles very cheaply from your local asian grocers.

We have no asian grocers around here. Until recently there were not many nationalities in Barnsley so when ever an asian / indian / or other store is mentioned we don't have one. Only things we have are netto/aldi/asda/morrison and tesco.

Thanks Noozan for the tip about asian grocers. I was going to go to Tesco and buy a few pint bottles of the stuff at 61p each but went accross the road to one of our many local asian shops and got 5 litres for £2.75!
And I'm sure my dad could probably get it even cheaper as he goes to big halal/asian stores in Leicester/Nottingham where everything is cheaper than round here so thanks a lot for the heads up!

I've made a cleaner (1pt white vinegar, half pint tepid water and 2-3 drops tea tree oil) and it's amazing, I am well impressed! Tackling my limescaled taps next!

    Thanks again!

I live near Blackburn, which has lots of Asian stores but none of the ones I've tried sell white vinegar! Does anyone else on here live near me and know where to get it cheaply? I have got mine from Makro in the past, but it costs £3.50ish for 5 litres.

Do you have a chinese restaurant/takeaway near you? They will buy in 5 litre bottles by the truckload (ok, slight exaggeration but you get the picture!) and if you ask nicely, they might sell you one. Ours are £1.70 for 5 litres and I have sold them at cost price to people who have asked me.

If you've got a Morrisons close by, their pint bottles (568 ml) of white vinegar are only 38 p. Not sure how that compares to the price of a litre, but 38 p is the cheapest I've found up to now.
