Ryanair check-in charge flip - do I have to pay?

Has anyone else had this problem with Ryanair since their policy change on check-in changes? And did you manage to check in for free at the airport?
before Sep 07: airport checkin was free; internet checkin £2
after Sep 07: airport checkin £2; internet checkin free
I booked in Aug 07 for a flight in Jan 08. Their website won't let me check in online as I selected "free airport checkin" when booking. Presumably I'll have to pay the £2 airport checkin charge - has anyone managed to get out of it in this situation?
I've tried their 0871 number but it's just a voicemail maze. They have a 'internet helpdesk' number 0905 566 0000 but it's £1/minute so I don't want to call it.

You don't have to pay - just ensure you can prove when you booked just in case they turn bolshy0

Don't worry, you will be on their list at checkin, won't be any fee to pay.0
