New Sky installation, missing channels.

Hi, we just had Sky installed yesterday but when I flick through the channels I find that all BBC and ITV channels don't work but most of the Sky channels are fine and channel 4 ( but not Film 4 or E4 ).

Just wondered if anyone would happen to know what the exact problem might be, called Sky and the engineer is coming back at the weekend.

Sky do not employ engineers, they employ installers, some of them not very good.

Any installer that is any good, should have checked the system before leaving your property, which obviosly didn't happen in your case.

It could be that the dish isn't properly aligned or a fault in the receiver itself.

You can check in the menu to see what the signal strength / quality readings are.

Signal strength is about 75% and quality about 50%

OK, that looks only sort of OK(ish). ... quality should be better than that really.

Try unplugging the Sky Receiver, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds or more, then plug it back in, see if that does any good.

Thanks, I tried that a couple of times also went into the LNB menu and turned it off/on as instructed by Sky, alas no change.

Erm, Sky do actually employ a couple of female installers, well they did a while ago.;)

You could always try this in case your software is corrupt

Switch sky box off at mains, hold down backup button on front of box at same time as you switch box back on at mains. Keep backup pressed until a row of lights appear on front of box and then release finger. When download complete box will go into standby mode.

Good point scoOter, however even the very worst Sky Installer would surely have done that, if needed...well maybe not.. ;)

A new installer came today and found a couple of problems...

    1) The dish was not properly aligned

    2) The LNB was faulty

All working now, shame about the first guy, seems he doesn't feel very enthusiastic about the job :p
