    I've been Money Tipped!
What's my favourite bit of Old Style? All of it! :D Since I have had to cut down my working hours through ill health, I have had to look for other ways to earn some pennies and have done this by spending less. (the tax man has a claim on every penny you earn but not so on the pennies you save, unless you are saving a fortune ;))

For me it has been a bit of a trip back in time to my penny pinching old ways developed when my own children were small and I wanted to be at home with them, how I wish this board had been around then! You have all helped to jog my memory (which is not functioning so well these days) and I have realised that I actually enjoyed using many of these skills and in the rush of modern day living I had missed using them. Goes to show that every cloud does indeed have a silver lining!

I now with encouragement from you all, bake, slowcook and generally cook from scratch, garden in a small way, read a number of recommended books by way of library or charity shops, recycle and mend, am learning about quilting (thank you Queenie!) make cards, am in process of learning how to do scrapbooking, and also feel that sometimes I can still be useful and help others sometimes by sharing a recipe etc.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I love the fact that OS exists at all. For a long time I followed my own OS path, with only the Tightwad Gazette books for company, so it was great to discover this site and so many other like-minded people. As others have said, it's great to know you're not alone.

Now that I'm here, I think my favourite thing has to be the daily OS chat. I love knowing how people spend their days, and often pick up handy tips just through reading what everyone is planning on doing that day.

    Thanks everyone!

I like many of you others just love to be in the company of like-minded people- prior to finding old style the nearest thing I had found were American forums that I couldn't relate to so much. My fave has got to be Queenie's daily thered- although I rarely post I read the threads as often as poss and find you all so inspiring, you give me so many ideas!

Along with many of us, my favourite thing about Old Style is the sense of community. I take great comfort from knowing that there ARE other people out there for whom a good life is more important than fashion and convenience, and that there ARE people bringing up children with positive values and some form of craft and good food!

As for the tangible things...my favourite things about being Old Style are the fact that I know what's in my food, AND that I grown some of it! I have found the growing of vegetables over the last four years to be a wonderful way of getting in tune with nature, and now I would really suffer if I had to live without a garden.

And for the boards...the inspiration that I'm getting to make more things, clothes etc...I had planned to make a lot of my Christmas presents this year, and now, with the backing of the OS community, I know I WILL!!

Wouldn't know where to start! Some days I like it best for recipes, other days for the garden threads, other days for answers to my 'what can I have for tea' question!

Some days I read only and don't post, other days I can comment (or chat!) on several subjects.

    And we don't bicker!

i have been moaning for ages about my kitchen which is quite small and one small cupboard for food.....last night i moved the fridgefreezer to a different place in my kitchen diner (more into the "diner" bit) and freed up access to an old unused cupboard which was disgusting inside 1 shelf and housed the old heating system....i cleared it all out, disinfected it, screwed the broken panel back together and white washed the inside...voila...a whole "new" kitchen pantry "old style"...i am planning on making a few shelves inside to maximise space.......no need for expensive new kitchen now!!!!!

JD - If you can get some real marble to put on one of your shelves, it'll give you a cool spot for overflow from your fridge as well (you know, when the fridge is full of booze for that barbie you're having and you've got nowhere to keep the butter from melting in the heat! :D )

This morning my Old Style favourite is Queenie. Just a tiny bit in a posting of mine and she pm'd me with her condolences and to tell me she was thinking of me.

Queenie you are a wonderful woman to take the time to do this for someone you don't know, bless you.

I love old style and I'm not sure if I can single out just one part....

:) I really like discovering new skills - like how to cook with a slow cooker, how to make my towels soft using vinegar etc

I value the inspiration that others give me. Cutting back can be hard, and often can result in cutting back in the wrong places. This board gives me direction, encouragement and gets me back on track when I wander *which I am prone to do* lol!

So I think it is the community feeling coupled with the practical solutions and tips that I love best.

Thank you everyone

I must admit that my favourate part of the Old style board, is the people who make me feel welcome every time I log on. Sometimes I have found other boards a bit off-putting to contribute to, but this one is a dream :A . My one thing that I really find myself getting into, is the daily thread (thanks Queenie ;) ). It makes me want to do more OS things all the time.

Most of all, I like putting some of the money I've saved into my son's bank account for when he is older, and educated in the moneysaving fashion that I've been. The rest I use to treat myself with now and again.:D

I love Old Style because of the great sense of community and belonging. I really feel like I fit in. I'm not tight - I'm normal!

Old Style has really come at a great time for me. I sniff out those yellow reduced stickers now, I eat plenty of fresh meat, fruit and veg and boy can I cook! The recipes that you lot know are great. :)

I haven't bought a book in ages as I've been using the library so much or actually reading what I've got on the shelf! Oh, and I've been doing swaps with friends.

We're also more aware of the chemicals that we use in the house. White vinegar all the way for us :D. OH is still a bit dubious about it in our brand new washing machine though! And don't forget the amount of recycling that we now do. We used to put out two black bin bags of rubbish, now we're down to one. When we get our own house we're definitely going to be composting what ever we can!

My favourite part of OS is that it is always there as a like-minded supportive friend. I love reading the OS daily threads (thanks Queenie!) and some of the diverse discussions get me thinking.

My personal target is to get my mortgage paid off asap and the boards in OS keep me focused. Also I don't feel like I am trying to do this alone. OH is similarly-minded, unlike ex-OH who would scorn this website. I like the fact that we are united against the consumer society and in being so, we are pro-healthy eating, re-using and recycling. My blood boils when I overhear people whose idea of entertainment is to go shopping. None of that here.

    Three cheers for OS!!
