American express RED declined please help !!

Hi first off !
im intentionally not posting in the existing AMEX thread as its too long and often people get sidetracked from the main topic rather than answering the question in the first place

now to the matter .... I applied for the RED card on 16th december and got declined and yesterday i have written an appeal to review their decision

in late 2006 i lost my mother due to breast cancer and following that was unemployed due to emotional distress so my credit history was quite low with a few missed payments as i had to take out credit to pay for funeral expenses i have explained this to them in the letter and since 2007 ive got a permanent job contract and have supplied them with my last months payslip and 4 months bank statements

my total overall debt is £2000 can anyone advise what are the chances of success i havent had a missed payment in april 2007 onwards

I applied for british airways amex before xmas and I got turned down, my credit rating is really good so heaven knows why, blame the credit crunch!
