Does anyone have a tip for getting Silly Putty out of fabric please?

Oh deep joy - when I attempted to remove my son from his bed this morning he was well and truly stuck to it!!! Daddy (he shall be in big trouble tonight!) let our 3 year old go to bed with Silly Putty (the type you get in a small egg) and it's spread out over his pj's and every item of bedding.

I've tried to pick it off, but it's thinly spread and stuck fast.

Does anyone have a tip please how it might be removed before I have to replace everything?

Many thanks in advance,
Penny

I did the very same thing as a child! I think my mum stuck everything in the freezer, then it just picked off quite easily.

Many thanks indeed for the freezer tip - I've squeezed all the items in there.... and if I sacrifice the food too, I will be able to force Tom in there to teach him the lesson (that did make me laugh!!!).

Fingers crossed this works and if it doesn't, not only will I have a frozen boy, but he will be a naked one too!!!

    Thanks,

  • Ooh, my lad did this a couple of weeks ago all over his new trackie bottoms. I put them in the freezer, but it doesn't seemed to have worked - the 'sticky stuff' is still very 'squishy' and hasn't frozen hard at all - I will have to try the stain devil thingy, thanks vamps, I wouldn't have thought to look for anything like that. My next attempt was to soak it in stardrops and shove it in the washer! lol I'm not sure what the stuff is though - its pink (?) and squishy, a bit like pink blu tak??

Many thanks all for your advice - I thought I'd better say what happened when I tried the freezer tip... in case anyone else was thinking of doing the same!

On the bedding (thick cotton material) it did work if I managed to get a ball of the putty and dabbed the rest to stick to it. This was very time consuming, but once I'd got it all out and put it through a hot wash, the bedding was perfect!

The cot bed sheet (flannette) sadly did not fair so well, due to it's elasticity and being a finer material, it tore - even just trying to stretch it out to unstick the folds of silly putty damaged it. So on that score, I'd find an alternative or face buying another sheet (like me!).

Thanks again and the best tip is probably not to buy silly putty in the first place (isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?!?!?)

    Stain Removal Tips

  • Hi

My DN has stuck his sticky putty on my brand new silk scarf (beautiful Christmas present from my DD). Anyone know how to get this off?
