Hi all,

My young lady has bothered me so much i finally agreed to get a new car.

So as young ladies do they want the first one they have seen and we have put a desposit down (£50)

And i have 1 doubt and no point asking the guy selling it as they are all bent :)

So here goes.....Is it a Zetec or not? I was wondering if anyone here knows :)
Details of the car:
ford focus flight 1.6
reg SO04 xxx
its a 2004 model
5 doors
16v
1600cc
petrol
manual.

Its sold as a 1.6 zetec but i cant see any mention of zetec on the car itself (i know sometimes they unbadge them) and after filling in various insurance quote forms none of them had the car down as a zetec just a ford focus flight...

So anyone have any ideas? :)

Thanks in advance.
The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.

I think it should be evident when opening the bonnet as it will be written on the engine I imagine.

I personally wouldn't put a deposit on a car without seeing under the bonnet. Basic things like coolant level and oil level can show how well maintained the car has been, and/or point to possible problems with the car. You may also be able to identify leaks with a thorough look etc.

Zetec is just a family of engine, not really a spec, though i know they put badges on cars sometimes.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

    It used to be, now it's a trim level.The 2004 1.6 could be a Duratec (mk2) or Zetec-SE (mk1).
  • as others have said the zetec is the name for a family of ford engines, and it was a spec of the focus.yours however is the flight model, when the flight was released there was a zetec spec available as i bought my focus in 2004 it was the edge model.
but your engine will definatly be a zetec engine.(as pictured above by anewman not the 1.6 though!).

I find it hard to believe that anyone can buy a car without lifting the bonnet first.

I suppose we can safely assume that the OP has also not bothered to get an HPI check on the car.

In 2004, Zetec was a spec level (LX, Zetec, Ghia etc).

The engine family also bore that name for a while too, but at that age, I believe they changed to be Duratec-HE or something similar.

The Flight may have been a 'special edition' based on the Zetec i.e. it was a Zetec with added extras sold at an extra value price. It could have been a factory special edition or a dealer special edition.

Once main feature of the Zetec is that it has alloy wheels and another is a brushed aluminium effect dashboard. It won't always have a/c.

If you can post a more detailed spec it would help.

Also, what does the logbook say it is ?

the model is the flight,in 2004 this was a base model, wheel trims etc...
then there was the lx,then the zetec, then the edge, ghia and st 170.
this DID have the zetec engine in it. not the duratec.
