Getting rid of my pre payment meter

Evening all

Does anyone know if British Gas charge for taking out the prepayment meter? I'm sick of paying too much for my gas and electric . I get both with them at the moment.

If there is a company who will not charge to remove the meter i am willing to change supplier.

Thanks in advance

There shouldn't be a charge, phone them up and ask.

A work colleague is doing the same thing with nPower, she has asked them to remove her prepayment electric meter and put her on a standard credit meter. She will then switch suppliers.

I am currently with NPowor premetre and Im thinking to move to British Gas Credit metre. Do I have to ask Npower to change it tp credit metre before applying to BG?

Also if I change it to NPower credit metre, how long it takes to move it across to BG?

    Thanks

British gas will probably credit check you, and if you meet their criteria they'll do it for free, otherwise it'll be a security deposit which you'll get back after a year.
Msaquib - ask npower to change it, if they don't, ask BG once you swap.

I was quoted £125 to change my meter by scottish power as I have not been with them for 1 year and have started the process to change to hydro electric who are not going to charge me.
  • I was quoted £50 from e-on (powergen) to have my electric metre changed from pre-payment. I moved back to Scottish Power as they're going to do it for free since I'd been a customer over a year.

After it's been changed, I'll be hunting round to see which company can offer me the best deal :D

British Gas CS are very poor I too use to have a prepayment meter when I use to rent a house. BS had me on hold for hours and hour and when you talk to some one they put you back on hold.. 5 hours of calling them I give up.. best way to do it.. change over to some one like Atlantic.. most remove them for free but takes about 2-3 weeks.. good luck also make your own meter reading before you change over or have your meter removed as they can get them wonrg and you foot the bill. When I had my meter removed by powergen I got a £308 bill. the bs customer before me got send a credit of £280. shows how good bs are.. and powergen they useless too.

Do I have to take metre reading for premetre before moving to credit? I thought there is no metre readings for premetre because it is charged up before it is used?

    Thanks

My Mum has literally just had metres taken out but EDF for free. Really simple, took about 20mins for each.
