applying online or phone-acceptance level better for either?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if you are more likely to be accepted for a credit card if you ring rather than go on the internet?? Or do they both use the same kind of credit scoring , I just thought that if you rang there would be more questions the operator would ask and maybe be more flexible i.e agreeing your credit limit? Any experiences?

Also has anyone lied about their earnings and found that this has helped you get a card? or have you been duped and asked for proof of income?

thanks in advance

G

Makes no difference to "acceptance" - it's all computerised at the end of the day. Also, makes no difference to credit limit offered as they don't score you while you're on the phone.

However, where telephone applications score for me is that you can ask as many questions as you like regarding the card's benefits, minimum payments, any fees applicable, etc.

Lying about earnings is fraud, and will result in your card being withdrawn with immediate effect. Their T & C's will detail the timescale for full repayment of debt - but I can tell you it's very short!

Also, this "fraud" will probably be recorded on your credit file for all to see, seriously impacting on your ability to obtain future credit, eg mortgage, utility providers, etc.

Phone operators don't have any authority to offer anything the computer won't let them offer, all they do is key in the same information you'd be asked to key in on the website and then read out what the computer tells them they can offer you. The "best" way to apply is probably in a branch or by post, as your card would be issued more quickly as you've already signed a credit agreement.

As I always tell my customers, if you do get declined you should always phone the appeal number as then your application gets looked at by real people rather than just a computer.

I just appealed against a decline on a tesco credit card and the decision was overturned
