Mobile Web Access

I'm a bit of a 'Durr-Brain' when it comes to modern technology, so would appreciate some advice on the following.

I want to have Internet access on the move (so anywhere in the country, not just wireless hot-spots), and I want something that would have a 'mobile' version of EXCEL as well, and I want it all in one unit. I particularly want website access to 2 websites at the same time so I need the ability to 'multi-task' between EXCEL and the 2 websites and/or open-up links in new windows.

Is there anything on the market that can do this? I believe the new mobile phones give you website access but don't have EXCEL (I believe!!). What are these new 'Blackberry' thingies? Would they do it?

If there is something out there, and assuming I would need a mobile phone network for this, I also need a good contract to give me UNLIMITED Internet access ...... is there such a thing and Network???? Guess I'm looking for a Mini Laptop!!!
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

vodafone has an internet card that is good anywhere there is mobile phone network. It is fast enough but I think they are £10 a month + time online so can be very expensive. I'm sure there are blackberry thingies that will run excel and small laptops which can have office installed. the voda cards connect to laptop. I imagine the blackberry things would come as part of a contract with a mobile phone company .

  • Hi Grumpy old duffer,

I work for Vodafone UK and wanted to let you know what we have available that may suit your needs.

There are a couple of handsets that spring to mind, the Nokia n95 8 GB and the Vodafone 1615 (HTC TyTn II,) would be the best handsets to match your requirements.

In relation to price plans we have many great price plans available at the minute all with inclusive voice minutes and text, the cost would depend on you and your needs. Data charges aren’t covered by our price plans however they do come with optional add-ons, for example the Vodafone mobile internet bundle at £7.50 a month for 120MB. If you use more than 120 MB you then get charged at our daily rate of £1 for the first 15Mb each day and £2 per MB thereafter.

As you mention you need unlimited usage a mobile contract may not be best for you. Another other option would be a Mobile internet data card. This incorporates a USB modem and a SIM card set up for data usage only. We have a price plan for £30 per month giving unlimited usage (subject to fair usage of 3GB.) You would plug the USB modem in to you laptop and be able to connect to the internet using the Vodafone software built into the modem. It does rely on mobile coverage and speeds will vary depending on the type of coverage you can get at the time of connection. GPRS speeds up 114Kbps, 3G speeds up to 384Kbps, HSDPA 7.2Mbps.

I would recommend you have a look at our handset range and price plans on the Vodafone website here.

I hope this helps you make up your mind.

    Hopefully Useful
