Sorry - another silly question for all you techies. I'll try and explain the best I can but I'm not sure I understand much myself!
My friend had a website built for her but she is no longer able to contact the man who built it. It is hosted with easily.co.uk and we can access the control panel for it. She would like to change some contact and price details on her website but we cannot seem to access anything like this. Is the actual website stored on the computer of the man who designed it and will he be the only one who can alter it?
Many thanks in advance.

Copy the website using ftp prog such as FileZilla , you will need your log in details normally the same as control panel log in.
You can then adjust the copy on your pc & when ready uplaod it, using ftp and replace the old one with your updated copy. You can then use the 'copy' on the pc to make changes and upload any time you want.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
just to clarify - when the copy is on your pc you will need an html editor to change details in the website pages. As long as you have a copy of the site someone should be able to help.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Thanks Wakandem, if I get stuck will you be able to give me a hand. We have just changed a setting as the web address was pointing to the easily.co.uk holding page for a while so have just changed it back but the website is not showing up yet, think it takes a while for the changes to take effect.
Thanks again0 -
It does take up to 48hrs for the pointing to change. I will help as much as I can and here for a while.
if I'm not around there are some great people on here who will give excellent advise. so just keep posting!Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
The website is live again now, do I need to download the filezilla thing?
Thanks again0 -
Yes, here is the link:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/filezilla/FileZilla_3.0.4.1_win32-setup.exe
Make a new connection. When it asks for host, thats your website address, username / password is the same as your control panel. port (if asked) should be 21. Any more details just ask. If you get stuck I can give you a hand. I have programmed many websites

Anthony - have sent you a pm!

NVU is a great and free html editor - check it out here.

Also not memory hungry or large filesize. Can also be run without installing.0 -
hmm I hope the web site is not php/mysql etc .... eg not plain html - pages are .php .asp
As the above will be a waste of time - if you have cpanel - use filemanger and/or the admin end to your website and just update only the pages you need to.
pm me the url - I can look for you.Rich people save then spend.

Hi Lips won't be around till much later today so just to recap - our pm's
It is a picture file *.jpg you need to change - no html code. Once you have changed the file via photoshop/elements/gimp using the clone tool - take an area along side the text you want to remove for cloning - not above or below as that will give you the wrong colour. - pic has horizontal layered colours - then use the text tool to add the text you want.
Then use the control panel upload tool to overwrite the current file. If that does not work - use a ftp tool as above - but you will need to know the ftp settings of your account !
Good luck...Rich people save then spend.
