alright probably really obvious to some but new to me 
right i have a pc and laptop here.
pc has xp pro and laptop xp home
pc is hard wired to a netgear router with the laptop connecting over wifi
trying to set up sharing between the two
ran the wizard and on the laptop i can see the pc & laptopin workgroup computers
however i get an error trying to connect to the pc
in the pc i get an error that the workgroup is not accesible.
tried disabling the pc's firewall to no avail(not using windows firewall)

you have to enable sharing for the folders/files.
and you have to have a PW for the puter. if your PC starts up with no PW required, then you cannot share.
enable a PW logon.Get some gorm.0 -

Double check that Windows Firewall is disabled.
Just because you've told it that you don't want it running doesn't mean that it isn't!

right both units have a PW now
changed the workgroup name
turned off both firewalls
rebooted and got it all working
windows firewall is off
however did some browsing on the laptop and when i went to check the shares i got the same as before
on the laptop i see the pc and laptop in workgroup but cant access the pc
on the pc i cant even see the workgroup and just get an error0 -
I had lots of problems setting up sharing between my desktop and laptop. Do you have Norton? Norton was the cause of my problem.Caroline0
