Cash Back taken back!

Yesterday I cancelled my Alliance & Leicester card. I asked if they would send a cheque for the amount of cashback I have accrued to date. They told me that was now forfeited because I have cancelled the card. Is this correct?

i think you will find that they are right.

i have they same situation on my mint card. I bt the balance to my new 12 month 0% barclaycard. I currently have £33 cashback, but the balance is 0.00, i am waiting for them to credit my account with the cashback, then i will request them to send me a cheque, cash the cheque, before i cancel the card
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • I wanted to cancel my accucard so I emailed them asking if I would lose my cashback if I cancelled my card. they said I would as it is only paid once a year on a set date. So I'll just wait then cancel!

Tell them you made a mistake and ask if can you reinstate it to keep the cashback.

Always READ the terms and conditions !

Its imperative to make a note of the key points. ALL cash-back cards I know about state that you will LOSE your cashback if the account is closed.

Amazing - again, someone posts something that demonstrates their own mistake.

There are a lot of people using this site that like to give examples of how silly they are.

    Cheers for yet another one.

This seems a bit harsh - remember, 'There's no such thing as a stupid question on here.' I've posted recently on the mortgages board about a stupid mistake I made and I'm grateful that noone has said 'how stupid are you?!?' - yet, at least.... ;)

    Guys, chill.

OK the original poster made a huge boo boo. Yes he/she should have checked the terms and conditions, which is pretty obvious. The poster will learn from that mistake and next time will check the T&C's

But at the same time there's no point for calling him/her "silly", that's just a bit harsh. It will put the original poster off from posting again, which is unfair to him/her.

it's an easy mistake to make, i think you're all being a bit mean :-( cashback is a strange thing. i've had my marbles card for 2 years and they just started doing cashback (ever so nice of them as i use this card for all of my spending and pay it off in full every month lol!). each statement tells me how much cashback i've earned but doesn't tell me how to get the money. i've never been sent any information about the cashback scheme and there's none on the website. i have no idea how to get my cashback, but will call them at some point and ask them. but my point is that cashback terms aren't always clearly stated, and in some cases they are not stated at all!

perhaps we should all post about any mistakes we've made, so others can avoid making the same mistakes? telling the world about your blunders would be kind, keeping them to yourself for fear of ridicule isn't. i can't remember any financial mistakes i've made though, sorry lol! oh yes, i got signed up for the 3 tier savings account that in the third tier offsets your mortgage. i'm in debt and my bank offers stupidly low interest rates in these accounts, so i really shouldn't use it. but it has automatic limits and i forgot to change them, silly me! so on the first month i got most of my salary swept into the savings account - doh! still, it's simple enough to rectify online, i transferred it back and changed my automatic limits :-)
